Jura Development Trust Membership
Who are we?
We believe in an independent, successful and sustainable Jura. Our aim is to help facilitate and sustain long term social and economic development for the island. Owned by it’s members, The Jura Development Trust is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. The JDT was established in 1997 and today operates with 3 part time staff, and a board of volunteer directors.
What do we do?
The Trust is able to operate as a business while attracting funding and support from charities, public and private sector organisations. This allows us to help deliver a really wide range of projects and ideas. Some of the projects we have completed or continue to manage include:
- Purchase of the community shop building
- Purchase of the Antlers building
- The Stone Pier, moorings and pontoons
- Funding for Jura passenger ferry
- The Oral History project
- Funding of renewable energy initiatives and research
- Funding for the refurbishment of the village hall and creation of the hall car park
- Interpretation boards and way signs
- Working with Argyll and Bute Council to run the Service Point
- The Corran Path Project.
Why do we need members?
Membership directly supports the community assets and services in our care. Good membership numbers help us when we apply for funding and give us a stronger voice when lobbying for Jura. The money we raise through membership fees helps cover some of our core running costs.
Members can stand for directorship and vote for which directors take office, as well as voting on any big changes. Ordinary members are those resident on Jura, associate membership is available to those further afield and businesses. Membership is vital for our survival, but we also feel it’s important to connect with the whole community, whether someone is a member or not. For this reason we try to speak to everyone when we do consultations and our AGMs are open to all.
Other ways to get involved
We’re always looking for ideas and suggestions. New directors are always welcome as is any volunteering, be it one off, regular, something big or something small. The opportunities available to the Trust and the future for Jura is exciting, and working with the trust can be rewarding, delivering tangible results.
Thank you for your support!
Donations
If you would like to support the Jura Development Trust with a donation you can do so on our donations page. We would also ask that you complete the Gift Aid form if you are a UK tax payer and wish to, so that JDT can collect a little extra on any donations made.
